Today's News

Barrett in media story:

Wade Barrett is at the center of a football spat, after Irish football manager Roy Keane criticised Wayne Rooney for getting involved at a recent WWE show...

"I always question certain players what are they doing off the field? I saw Wayne last week slapping a wrestler and I'm thinking 'why is he getting involved in all that nonsense?'. There's no benefit to him so I think I would look at that side to it."

Bring it back:

Charlotte and Sasha Banks have joined the calls on social media backing the re-installation of the Women's title.

Network talk TNA:

TNA's new domestic TV partner Pop have discussed their new deal...

"Dixie and the Impact team were looking for a new home for their series. They had huge success on Spike. Millions of viewers watching every week, and they really enjoyed that success. In switching to another network [Destination America] which didn't have the distribution that Spike had, they obviously noticed a little bit of a hit to the success that they had. So [TNA was] actively looking for a new television partner, and I think made the rounds and met with a lot of cable networks to see where a home might be. We were on their list of calls, and they came in [about a couple of months ago], and we had our entire team meet with them and listen to the pitch and listen to what they wanted to do -- where they saw the company going, where they saw [pro wrestling] going. That's how it came to our attention. We had a lot of people in that meeting -- our marketing team, our programming team, our communications team, our research team. We really wanted everybody to hear it. We even had representatives from CBS and Lionsgate in that meeting, so everybody could hear it firsthand. I would say the next day we [Pop, CBS, Lionsgate] were all like, 'We got to do this.' I'm not spinning this in any way. It's the truth. When we knew this meeting was happening, there were people like me. I grew up watching wrestling, and I remember going to WrestleMania, and I had my own wrestling name, when I was younger, when we joked around in the basement."

Great Khali remembers WCW career:

"After six months there, I signed a contract with World Championship Wrestling (WCW). There I continued to learn the trade and to fight but then Vince McMahon, chairman of WWE, bought the company. It left me disappointed because only in 7-8 months that I was there, the company was bought. I was not sure how things would transpire now and what would happen to my career."

Footballer credited for WWE move:

A US footballer has started to perform the ''Yes'' chant at his games. A TV network featured his performing of the gesture, and called it his signature move. He responded...

"First of all, I'm not the creator, Daniel Bryan is the creator. I thought the energy that he brings, Columbus could really, really go with it. It has become a thing of it's own, so if I wanted to stop, I don't think I'd make it out of the stadium. The fans love it, It's kind of become our signature, a little part of this team's character and culture."

Today's News

Jim Ross blogs on Mania:

Jim Ross says WWE have a couple of options for major names to bring in for next years Mania in Texas...

"The two most viable stars that WWE could bring in for WM32 or so it seems might be Goldberg and Batista. Austin and HBK are adamant that their wrestling days are history, Hogan is still on the outs with the company plus he doesn't need to wrestle a match with his back condition and Rock has movie commitments I'm told as does Ronda Rousey. For those that think that Austin and HBK would do 'one more match' for the right money, please, just stop it."

And on Daniel Bryan's chances of making it...

''If Dr. Joe Maroon, WWE's medical guru, doesn't clear Daniel Bryan I don't think it matters how many other doctor's say that it's OK for DB to return to the ring. If I was still in charge of WWE roster, I'd go strictly on what Dr. Maroon says."

Raven:

Raven says Vince McMahon had a better Mania match than Chris Jericho...

"[Jericho] and Michaels had a phenomenal match, but I still thought that the best match, no offense, on the card was Hulk and Vince because Vince's facials and they didn't have 20 minutes of false finishes. I think they had just a comeback and go home, right? But I remember there was this one spot where Vince picked something up and he peers. Like, his head pops up and he's peering over across the ring and the camera picks it up and I'm like, 'oh, what a shot!.'"

He also revealed why he left, and why he will almost certainly never return...

"Nobody leaves this company on their own terms. I did, so that was heat. Then, there [were] some other things that I can't get into that were heat and so it was a whole confluence of things that were partially my fault, definitely partially my fault, and just circumstances. They made the policy that talent couldn't sleep with the office people. I was proud of that."

He then shared some road stories about being drinking buddies with Shane McMahon, and Vince being jealous, and angry of their friendship.

2016 biographies:

Andre The Giant and Great Khali will have books out next year, Andre's will be written by his daughter.

Former WWE creative writer rants about product:

N I Naylor wrote...

"W/ the record low Raw rating made me think of that terrible overseas Raw in 97 that "changed" things & had Russo (ugh, I know) talk to Vince. It's going to take a HIGHLY influential writer (I know two) or SOMEONE to put it all on the line and talk to Vince about how bad things are. It's not a "HHH will save the day" either, cause the writers still seem to write for him and Stephanie too - the whole "audience of 3" deal. There needs to be a COMPLETE overhaul from Dunn and how the show is shot and produced. It's just SO SAMEY. Every week, same template. It's all got to change. Presentation, look of the show, all the tropes need to be phased out. New blood needs to be pushed differently etc. It's funny, there is nothing I'd love seeing more than HHH as a character on NXT (it's fresh) and nothing less I want to see than HHH on Raw. I just can't fathom watching Raw anymore. I saw the opening segment last night and I and the person I watched it with just turned it off. EVEN when I worked there, I rarely watched it. Would come in on Tuesdays complaining to DeMott. Was later told I wasn't a "good soldier". Needing to "pick my battles". Welp, that..... is ALL of the problem. Seems like nobody ever wants to speak up. And when they do - punished. As someone that LOVES wrestling, just sucks to see the pool pissed in quite often. Road Dogg said it best, if you don't like it, don't watch. As FSM mag tweeted negatives the whole show - I told a friend - "so glad I stopped watching, as WHY watch something that you don't enjoy". I saw SO many great talented people come through developmental & spent painstaking amounts of time working w/them. Sucks seeing 'em languish. Again, not to pile on - but there is SO MUCH great talent employed. And the world's best production team/behind the scenes employees. They just need a new and fresh approach. I have no doubt it'll get better - as NXT's show in Brooklyn was so refreshing. It's interesting to note that Dusty would tell me - "Naylah, if someone didn't do what I told 'em, "eff em, dey fiyahed". Thus when ONE booker, Dusty needed a star made, you booked someone to make a star. If they didn't they were gone. Now with an entire team of chef's, nobody has autonomy (well, cept Vince) and there's just 50/50 everything and nobody stands out. Okay, I'm done. That was cathartic. Thanks for reading."

Brodus Clay talks heat with John Cena:

Tyrus says he has no heat with John Cena, and his criticism of him in shoot interviews is merely a ribbing of each other, and a private joke between the two...

"Yeah. I did that because he compared me to the XFL. I was like 'what did I do?' I said 'okay, cool. I'm getting mentioned on two wrestling promotions, but I can't let him ride on that, can I? Hell no. Get him.' I said the only thing different between Cena and PN News was a push, and everybody laughed. He's the pinnacle of our business. He's probably not going to hear people yelling at the middle of the mountain at him. Just having fun with him. It was a good concept and the first time I put a series together. I'm going to keep doing it because I enjoy it and it shows another side of me. It won't always be about that."

JR advises WWE star to leave:

Jim Ross says Dolph Ziggler needs to take time away from WWE, to refresh and reinvigorate himself...

"Is it time for Dolph Ziggler to take a much deserved sabbatical and to then return with a new focus? It's hard for me to comprehend why Ziggler is not utilized more productively in today's marketplace in WWE and perhaps getting off the road and allowing him to freshen up isn't such a bad idea. Yes, I know WWE doesn't have an overabundance of depth but when a door closes for one talent it should open for another."

Hall Of Famer calls for union:

Jesse Ventura says wrestlers need to take back some power from Vince...

"Absolutely! How backwards could it be? Even when I fought with Vince, it wasn't over him. I had to pay for my own health insurance for me and my family. It was costing me $5000 a year. If we had a union, maybe that could be diminished to $2000 a year. There's strength in numbers. You could have retirement. I took the gamble and sued Vince and beat him in 1990. He still sends me quarterly checks. Anything I appear on, he has to pay me for."

Harper gave up on WWE:

Luke Harper says he gave up on ever making it to WWE when his child was born, but, just days later, this happened...

"Two days after I had my child in January [2011], [I] got called by Johnny Ace. And the other best part about that is that I missed his call because I was in the hospital, so he left a message, his number cuts out. So I instantly called Claudio Castagnoli to say 'please tell me you have Johnny Ace's number' and he said, 'yeah, here it is right here.'" I was told again WWE were looking for guys over six [foot] whatever that could work. And so Claudio Castagnoli was down there, Tyler Black who is now Seth Rollins, and Jon Moxley who is Dean Ambrose, kind of all were close to Joey and said, 'hey, there's a kid out there that', I use the term, 'kid', loosely, 'there's a guy out there who can work and is tall and whatever and no one [has] ever called him.'"

I'm tired of being told through Raw, Smackdown and PPV's that WWE superstars I have rooted for - from Ziggler to Cesaro to Kevin Owens aren't top stars - no matter how strongly crowd reaction seems to disagree. I'm tired of NXT stars getting their big "break" in WWE, just to be treated like jokes.''

Survivor Series threat:

The FBI say there is no credible intelligence that an attack will take place tonight at the WWE PPV, but WWE have brought the door opening time forward by an hour, and will security check everyone entering the building with metal detectors. The events Anonymous released yesterday were a list of suggested sites for ''Lone Wolf'' attacks by ISIL sympathisers, but again, the FBI assert that there is no indication that anyone has taken up the challenge of targeting the event.

Triple H has released a statement aimed at reassuring and advising fans attending the event...

"Federal, state and local law enforcement authorities have confirmed there is no specific or credible information involving a threat against tomorrow's WWE Survivor Series at Philips Arena. However, WWE and Philips Arena have coordinated with the appropriate agencies and law enforcement, and significantly increased security measures to ensure the safety of all those in attendance, which is our highest priority. Doors will open at 6 p.m. to help fans avoid any delays in entering the arena due to the additional precautionary security procedures put in place. Fans are encouraged to take public transportation (MARTA) to the event and are advised that bags will not be permitted in the arena."

... but WWE stars, including Darren Young, are urging people at the show to be alert, and report anyone, or anything, suspicious.

The list released has already caused the cancellation of events. Five Finger Death Punch's Milan show was also on it, and the band have decided not to go ahead with the gig, as have a university in Lebanon, whose spirit rally was also listed, but will also not now go forward.

Cena done?:

John Cena has discussed his decision to take time away from WWE, and says he has done all he can do with WWE...

"I've been a cornerstone of WWE programming since 2002. That's a long time, it's more than 10 years. So much so that a portion of our audience has direct complacency with me. 'Man, Cena holds everybody down. He doesn't give the new guys a chance.' From a company perspective, as you know I hold it very near and dear to my heart, the dance floor is open, boys. I'm gone, let's see who steps up. And I like that. As much as I want to try to distance myself or as much as someone who views me would try to distance myself from WWE, I'm never going to go. Personally, and this gives me a better perspective on Dwayne Johnson's path, you get to a certain point and you cannot attract any more fans. Essentially, my productivity from a company standpoint … I've done as much as I can — 15 world championships and a myriad of other accomplishments. I don't know what left I can do, but I still want to be able to put people in the building."

Jay Lethal talks WWE:

"I'm going to say that, for most professional wrestlers around my age and from my generation, the reason we got into wrestling was due to a love that was created in part by being fans of the WWE as kids. To say that I wouldn't want to work there would be a misstatement, because it is the company that started my love for professional wrestling, so I do have to say that it would be cool to wrestle for the WWE. But on the other side of that token, I wouldn't feel like, 'Man, I really missed out on something big.'"

Bob Backlund reveals why he changed his mind about HOF:

But the one thing about people in general is when somebody's on top, they want to see them fall, and when they fall, they want to see them make that comeback. They're great stories. And I think that's where people are and do I think he can be forgiven and make amends with the world and move forward? Yeah! Absolutely, but at the same point and time, for us, in that timeframe, you're putting out the message of how you'll tolerate things and how you'll react to things and we did what we needed to do and he [has] got to do what he needs to do to get himself back to that point."
